Upper Dolpo Trek is one of the most beautiful and adventurous treks in the Wild West of Nepal. Dolpo region is situated in between Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m), the seventh highest mountain in the world and Tibetan plateau. This rain shadow region receives less precipitation and hence remains dry throughout the year offering perfect trekking opportunity. The trek offers ample opportunity to explore unique Tibetan culture, highly revered monasteries and pristine Phoksundo Lake. The trek follows ancient trade route allowing to add the memory of a lifetime. This region is rich in ancient Tibetan culture, artistic monasteries festooned with colourful prayer flags and picturesque landscape. Thus, Eric Valli directed the movie "The Caravan (The Himalaya)" filming it in the Dolpo region. This region requires a special permit for trekking, and it remained closed until 1989.
The holiday begins with flights to Nepalgunj and onto Juphal, the trailhead to one of the greatest treks. The trail goes pass several remote villages offering opportunity to experience true Nepal and Nepalese culture.
