Jyotirlinga is a devotional representation of Devadi Deva, Mahadev or Lord Shiva. Jyotirlinga literally means "The Radiant symbol of the Almighty", so it is the resplendent flame of the almighty solidified to make the worship of it simple. As per Puranas, there are a total of 64 Jyotirlingas, spread around the landscape of India and Nepal. However, 12 Jyotirlingas are presumed to be very auspicious and highly revered among them.

Visiting Jyotirlingas is an important pilgrimage that wades off all the sins and makes the soul sacrosanct and pure and believed that wishes are fulfilled. Thus, these most sacred sites of Lord Shiva are visited by his devotees in huge numbers every year.
