Langtang, Gosaikunda Circuit Trek

Located in the center of the Nepalese Himalayas is the captivating area of Langtang and Gosaikunda, where the beauty of nature is revealed at every corner. Setting off on the Langtang, Gosaikunda Circuit Trek with the extra thrill of the Gonjala Pass ensures a memorable expedition through breathtaking sceneries, holy lakes, and age-old cultural legacy.

The Langtang Valley, also known as the Glacier Valley, is a paradise for hikers looking for untouched nature and breathtaking views. When you start your journey, the mountains covered in snow in the Langtang range loom large, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere. The hike starts in Syabrubesi, a delightful village filled with the friendliness of the local people. From this point, the path meanders through thick forests of rhododendrons, oaks, and pines, providing opportunities to catch a glimpse of rare animals and colorful birds.

Slowly ascending, hikers pass through charming Tamang villages decorated with beautifully carved wooden homes, where age-old practices and rituals flourish. With each step taken, breathtaking views of sharp mountain peaks and lush valleys are revealed, captivating the mind and sparking curiosity. Throughout the journey, meetings with welcoming residents offer a glimpse into their lifestyle, enhancing the experience with cultural interaction and friendship.

As the path winds further into the core of Langtang, the scenery changes into a rough wilderness of towering rocks and falling water. The peace of the area is highlighted by the harmonious movement of mountain brooks and the far-off sound of yak chimes. In Langtang Village, situated below the impressive Langtang Lirung, hikers discover solace in the calm of nature, enjoying moments of contemplation and renewal.

As we continue our journey, the trail takes us to the holy lakes of Gosaikunda, a respected place of worship for followers of Hinduism and Buddhism alike. Surrounded by majestic snowy mountains, the vibrant blue waters of Gosaikunda glisten with otherworldly charm, inspiring a feeling of deep spiritual respect. According to ancient tales, these pure lakes were created by the powerful deity Lord Shiva himself, making them a place of great importance and serenity. The Langtang, Gosaikunda Circuit Trek culminates in the challenging climb to the Gonjala Pass, a lofty mountain pass that provides unmatched views of the majestic Himalayan range. As hikers make their way through the steep and rugged terrain, the air grows thinner and the difficulty increases. Yet, the ultimate reward at the peak is unparalleled – a stunning 360-degree panorama of towering peaks, such as Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and Ganesh Himal.

At the top of the Gonjala Pass, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Himalayas, a deep sense of achievement and wonder washes over you. The rugged charm of the terrain, combined with the tranquility of the high-altitude wilderness, offers a moment of pure joy and spiritual enlightenment. It serves as a reminder of the unbeatable drive for exploration and the endless marvels waiting for those who are willing to step outside the ordinary. Making your way down from the pass, hikers finish the journey, retracing their path through the captivating valleys and forests of Langtang. Every moment spent in the natural splendor of this area leaves a lasting impression on the spirit, nurturing a profound connection to the land and its splendid creations.

As the Langtang, Gosaikunda Circuit Trek comes to an end, hikers make their way back to society with hearts full of memories and spirits rejuvenated. While the journey may be over, the lasting impressions of its magnificence continue to inspire future escapades and spin tales of amazement for generations to come. To sum up, embarking on the Langtang, Gosaikunda Circuit trek with the Gonjala Pass is not simply a Trekking adventure; it is a transformative voyage of exploration, revelation, and spiritual enlightenment. Trek Lama Hotel
( Altitude: 2560 m, Duration: 5-6 hours )
Duration:

Altitude:
2560 m

Lama Hotel
Today's trail starts meandering through the cool deciduous forests of oak and maple that cover the lower sections of the valley and climbs through massive stands of spruce, fir, and blue pine. Towering walls close in and your paths will skirt precipitous drops, which fall into a silt-laden river below. It's a classic transition from temperate lowland forest to high-altitude Himalayan valley. Descend through the village of Syabru and continue down the ridge until you come to a trail to the east that drops sharply off the ridge and through a dense forest. Cross a bridge (1960m) over a tributary of the Langtang Khola and then climb for a short distance. The trail continues level for a way before descending, still in the forest, to the Langtang Khola. The trail follows the south bank of the river through a deep gorge with no views of the mountains, crossing another tributary in about an hour. In another hour from this tributary, cross yet another bridge (2050m) to the north bank of the Langtang Khola. The trail begins climbing up from the river at this point and in an hour, shortly after the trail levels off, you join the old Langtang trail (2380m) from Syarpagaon and Syabrubensi. Another hour from this trail junction brings you to the Lama Hotel in the tiny village of Chongong (2400m).
10
Rest to Langtang Village
( Altitude: 3420 m, Duration: 5-6 hours )
Duration:
5-6 hours
Altitude:
3420 m
Destination:
Langtang Village
A day further on the forest peters out and you start getting the first tantalizing glimpses of snow-capped peaks. From the Lama Hotel, the trail climbs steadily to GhoraTabela with glimpses of LangtangLirung (7246m) through the trees. At times the trail becomes very steep but only for short distances. Gradually the air becomes thinner and the climate colder. At GhoraTabela (3010m) the trail leaves the forest and a spectacular view of LangtangLirung appears. GhoraTabela was once a Tibetan resettlement camp but is now an army post. There is a good lodge where we'll stop for lunch. Continue up the valley, leaving the forests behind, the trail ascends steadily up to Langtang village, passing below a monastery about 30 minutes beforehand. Langtang is an interesting Tibetan-style village with stone- walls enclosing houses and fields where you just might see your first yaks. The Langtang National Park headquarters is also located here. After Langtang, you can see a community of typical flat-roofed Tibetan houses and the valley flattens and broadens into open pasture. This is perfect for raising yaks, and you'll see these imposing beasts everywhere.
11
Trek to Kyanjin Gompa
( Altitude: 3860 m, Duration: 4 hours )
Duration:
4 hours
Altitude:
3860 m
Destination:
Kyanjing Gumba
You may notice that the valley above this point is U-shaped, which indicates that the valley was carved by a glacier. Below Langtang, the valley has the characteristic V-shape of a river-carved valley. Leaving Langtang, you ascend gradually to a chorten (a small Tibetan Buddhist stupa) behind which is a very long mani wall. The trail passes two small villages and the village widens. You cross several streams and a moraine before arriving at Kyanjin Gompa (3800m). Between Langtang and Kyanjin Gompa, the views just get better and better where you'll see YansaTsenji (6580m) and Kimshun (6750m) to the north and the Langtang Himal to the northwest. Since you'll probably arrive before lunch, you'll have time to do some exploring in the afternoon, though you may be experiencing some discomfort from the altitude. Alternatively, take a good rest and allow your body to acclimatize to the high altitude as much as possible to be fully prepared for more ascending during the next day.
12
Excursion in Kyanjin Gumba
( Altitude: 3860 m, Duration: 6 hours )
Duration:
6 hours
Altitude:
3860 m

Kyanjin Gumba

A 4-hour walk to the east of KyanjinGompa from the village is 5000m TsergoRi. If you start early in the morning and are well-acclimatized, you should be able to climb this peak and return to KyanjinGompa in 1 long day. The reward for climbing to the prayer flags on its summit is a magnificent view of the 7246m Langtang Lirung, the mountain that dominates the valley. There are numerous alternative side trips. The surrounding area, especially to the north, is vast and has many smaller, uninhabited valleys - ideal for high-altitude, backcountry trekking. Several of the more moderate local peaks are quite climbable and provide breathtaking panoramic views of mountains in Tibet, including the 8027m XixaPangma. If you have the inclination and the right equipment provided by us, the upper Langtang Valley can also be used as a base for glacier exploration.
