(The Birthplace of Mata Janaki)
Janaki Temple is dedicated to Mata Janaki, the beloved daughter of King Janak of Videha. The present temple was built by Queen Vrisha Bhanu of Tikamgarh in 1910 AD. It is said that the temple was built at the very spot where a golden statue of the Mata Sita was found and Sita is said to have lived there before moving to Ayodhya after marrying Lord Rama. The three-storied structure is made entirely of stone and marble. The temple is also popularly known as the Nau Lakha Mandir (meaning "nine lakhs"). The cost for the construction of the temple was about the same amount of money: rupees nine lakhs or nine hundred thousand, hence the name.
