India is truly incredible, with a diversity of Nature, unfathomable culture, and a long history. India offers endless opportunities to accumulate experience and memories for a lifetime spiritual journey. Char Dham Yatra is one of the most important Hindu pilgrimages in India. Char Dham Yatra means a pilgrimage to four secret sites of Uttarakhand which comprises Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri, and Gangotri. Each of the sites has its legendary history and myth associated with them, which give them immense religious importance. It is a pilgrimage of a lifetime for Hindu adherents.
Yamunotri Dham is dedicated to the Yamuna River, which is believed to be the daughter of the Sun in Hindu mythology. It is situated in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. It is believed that bathing in its water cleanses all sins and protects from untimely and painful death.
Gangotri Dham is dedicated to Goddess Ganga, who is said to have descended on earth to absolve the sins of humankind. The river originates at Gaumukh from the Gangotri glacier which is some 18 km from the town of Gangotri. It is also called Bhagirathi, as King Bharirath brings the Ganga from Heaven to Earth for the liberation of his ancestor, sixty thousand sons of King Sagar. Situated in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, the original temple of Gangotri was built by Amar Singh Thapa, a Gurkha general, in the early 19th century.
Kedarnath Dham is situated in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, and it is the most remote pilgrimage site in the yatra. It is believed that the original temple of Kedarnath was built by Pandavas. Adi Shankaracharya got the present structure constructed in the 8th century adjacent to the old temple site. It is believed that Kedarnath Dham is the place where Pandavas were liberated from their sins committed on the battlefield of Mahabharata.
Badrinath Dham is one of the 108 Divya Deshams in the Hindu religion. Thus, it is considered one of the most holy places for Hindu adherents. Adi Shankaracharya found the idol of Lord Badri in the Alaknanda River and placed it in a cave near the Tapt Kunda.
