Watching Red Panda in their natural habitat is a unique experience. Red Panda (Ailurus fulgens) is one of the adorable mammals of eastern Himalayas. They live in mossy temperate broad-leaved forests with bamboo undergrowth. They are found in mountain forests of Nepal, India, Bhutan, Myanmar and central China.
Red Pandas grow to about the size of a house cat and they have dense reddish-brown fur with a black belly and legs, white-lined ears, a white muzzle and ringed tail. They favour steep slopes with dense bamboo cover near water sources. They are solitary, crepuscular and largely arboreal. They mainly feed on bamboo shoots and leaves, but also on fruits and blossoms.
Due to poaching, illegal trade and loss of habitat, Red Panda population has declined drastically. Thus, it has been listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
Visit Kailash Treks organizes a special Red Panda Watching Tour for anyone who would like to see Red Panda in their natural habitat. The holiday starts with a flight to Bhadrapur which offers opportunity to see Mt. Everest, Mt. Kanchenjunga and other magnificent mountains. The trip provides chance to see beautiful tea gardens and experience true Nepalese culture and hospitality.
